Julie Pedroni and I, Co-Chairs of the APPE Program Committee, want to first thank each and every one of you for being such an important part of what makes APPE the community of scholars and professionals it is. APPE’s reputation as the place to present and hear top quality work in a friendly, engaged atmosphere would not exist without your contribution. Thank you! 

We also want to take a moment to update you on APPE’s February 2022 meeting in Cincinnati. We will be an in-person meeting for the vast majority of our presentations next year, in part because of our financial commitments. There will be some online presence for those who cannot make it because of extenuating circumstances, but please rest assured that APPE is back for that personal interaction that all of our members value so much.

Ethical decision making during a global pandemic requires individuals and organizations to navigate a complex and evolving environment that consists of multiple stakeholders with different mandates, agenda, plans and priorities. The issues that have arisen during the COVID-19 pandemic are multidisciplinary and require an ability to synthesize and integrate all these factors and their relationships.

This 3-hour workshop provides a framework for ethical public health policy development, which includes: the dynamic nature of the public health policy arena, the factors that influence decision makers, as well as an understanding that values and lived experience are vital inputs during the decision making process.
